Prior to being appointed as a Judge of the Superior Court of the State of Connecticut, Clarance Jones served as an attorney in public interest firms, and also as a partner in the Law Firm of Jones, Turner & Wright. He served for twenty years as a Judge of the Superior Court. He was approved by the Connecticut Judicial Selection Commission for appointment to the Connecticut Appellate Court.
PERSONAL INJURY AND PROFESSIONAL MALPRACTICEAs a judge for more than 20 years, Clarance Jones has heard and decided numerous personal injury cases from significant motor vehicle accidents to substantial injuries on property. In addition he has presided over numerous professional negligence cases, some involving claims of medical malpractice.
CONTRACT, INSURANCE, CONSUMER CLAIMSContract claims involving real estate transactions, consumer and debtor relations, and insurance submissions were often the subject of litigation over which as a judge Clarance Jones presided. Some of the awards sought exceeded a million dollars. Whether at that level or less, or whether it involved an insurance company or a partnership or consumer dispute each case presented substantial legal challenges which were met and addressed by his judicial rulings.
COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE & LANDLORD-TENANT DISPUTESWhile the Presiding Judge in the Housing Session of the Superior Court Judge Clarance Jones heard numerous commercial and consumer occupancy cases. In addition, he reviewed and was the deciding voice in approving the settlement of hundreds of premises occupancy cases.
HUMAN RIGHTS IN EMPLOYMENT & HOUSINGAs a former Chairman of the Connecticut Human Rights and Opportunities Commission Clarance Jones has reviewed literally thousands of cases involving claims of discrimination based upon gender, race, and national origin. In addition, while in private practice he actively litigated in federal and state court claims of violation of civil rights. These experiences, together with his experience from judicial deliberation and decision-making, have placed him in a position of understanding and fostering resolution of issues in the sensitive area of human rights.
DIVORCE AND FAMILY LAWWhile a Superior Court Judge, Clarance Jones presided over and decided the outcome of hundreds of divorce cases involving the allocation of the parties' financial assets, and resolved contested issues of child custody, alimony and financial support.
